Project Description
Westminster City School is an active member of the 6th form partnership and the development of the first phase of Specialised Diplomas. The main changes to the school will be: - Rationalise the existing building layout increasing the classroom sizes. - Develop an ICT department within the new build block. - Provide the school with on-site sports facilities.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The entrance to the existing building will be reconstructed to give a new appearance to the school. Refurbishment works will also be completed in the main block to improve the current congestion issues by enlarging the classrooms and grouping departments together as well as improving the working environment for the children.
The flow of pupils, staff and visitors from the new entrance to the main block will be enhanced by the provision of dedicated links at both the ground and first floor.
Demolition
Two existing Victorian houses at the front of the school will be demolished.
External Areas
- New paved area
- Segregated vehicle entrance from the main pupil entrance.
New Build Area (2,266 m2)
The new block S will be composed of a sports hall at basement level, a
music department, including a recording studio, and a roof garden with a
terrace.
The new block N will be the main school reception foyer containing the
administrative offices, specialist ICT classrooms and 6th form areas on the
upper floors.
Both block S & N will be linked together via the basement level.
Connection between block N and the retained main Victorian block A will
be via a ramp.
Refurbished Area (5,924 m2)
Spaces in block A will be maximised to create larger classrooms and
offices. The new layout reduces the travel distance between lessons and
the stress on circulation.
Block E (existing gym) will be refurbished using the high ceiling space to
incorporate the new art department.
The existing music and drama block will be changed into a RE department.
