The Soakaway

 New Building

  • Creation of the permanent 'Soakaway' *

The soakaway acts as a flood defence that captures rainwater falling in the playground or on the new building.  This is then drained into what is known as attenuation cells (see picture for approx image of what they look like).  These allow the surface water to be stored in one location which is then gradually released back into the ground.  It is also known as a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS).
