Project Description

Grey Coat Hospital School has had a rich and varied history and is now a Specialist Language College. As a result of the redevelopment project, the school will have a new Art, Drama and Music Facility on Horseferry Road at the Lower School as well as remodelled classrooms at both the Lower School on Greycoat Place and the Upper School on Regency Street.

Many parts of the  school will be remodelled , including the addition of the new Arts Block adjacent to a early 20th Century school block.This building will become a “Gateway to Learning” opposite Channel 4 TV Headquarters.


New Build Area (1700 m2)
A  new Art and Drama  building will be constructed, which will link at various levels to the existing Arts Building and will comprise new Music Classrooms, Music Practice Rooms, Art and Drama Spaces and a full catering facility with a new dining area. A basement will be constructed to house the Activity and Drama Studio.


On all floors will be a range of classrooms, studios, offices, and on the Ground Floor a large purpose built kitchen.

Refurbished Area (3600m2)
The existing buildings will be  remodelled in various areas.

Lower School – St Andrew’s

The PE Department will benefit from a refurbished PE Office, new data wiring to all areas and full redecoration to the existing Gym and Shower rooms. New History classrooms will be created on the ground floor, along with new toilets for the students comprising cubicles, vanity units and sanitaryware.

A redecoration of the existing Learning Resource Centre will be carried out as well as the installation of new dada trunking which will allow new data and power circuits to be installed.

The Science and Geography departments will be extensively remodelled in Summer 2010 and all mechanical and electrical systems will be  renewed.A new facility for Special Educational Needs will be formed with offices and mentoring facilities on the Ground Floor of the Lower School.

Upper School - St Michaels

Existing Classrooms will be remodelled to provide better circulation. The existing Staff and administration areas on Ground and 1st floors will be refurbished to provide better utilisation of the existing space.

Mechanical and Electrical Systems will be redesigned to improve the cooling, heating and ventilation on all floors.

External
At the Lower School, St Andrew’s, a new Multi Use Games Area will be constructed as well as extensive landscaping and external drainage. A new entrance and area for waste storage will be constructed to ease access off Horseferry Road
