Project Description

St. Marylebone is a very successful school and is continually striving to achieve the best possible outcomes for their students. An important element of the school design philosophy is the promotion of the dual specialities of Arts and Mathematics/Computing. The school is split into two separate sites located at Blandford Street and at High Street. The Project consists of the refurbishment of the existing buildings at the High Street site and the part demolition, new construction and refurbishment of the Blandford Street site.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The key feature of the plans for St Marylebone School is the redevelopment of the school at Blandford Street to provide extra accommodation. It will allow the school to expand and to provide 6th form accommodation and specialist facilities.

ST MARYLEBONE HIGH STREET:

Refurbishment: (5,063 m2)

In block A the SEN department will be relocated on the ground floor adjacent to general offices to provide easier access for both staff and students. The ICT area and the English classrooms will remain on the first and the second floors respectively.

In block B the reception will be enlarged inside the main entrance to improve the meeting and greeting of visitors to the school. A large central administration area will provide a greater amount of space to teaching staff. The classrooms on the second floor will be used for religious studies and business.

In block C the design and technology area will be replaced with maths classrooms on the ground floor and the geography area on the first floor will be replaced with general teaching. The second and third floor refurbishment works will be completed to improve the science departments.

External Areas: Will be resurfaced.

ST MARYLEBONE BLANDFORD STREET:

Demolition: (2,300 m2)

The existing and unused hostel and convent buildings located at Aybrook Street will be demolished in order to form a new block providing adapted facilities.

New build area: (3,390 m2)

The school will benefit from better facilities with a new 4th floor block including a new assembly hall, five new general teaching classrooms, four new science laboratories, five design and technology classrooms, new kitchen, dining facilities and 6th form common area.

Refurbishment: (622 m2)
Refurbishment works will also be undertaken in LGR and from 1st to 4th floor on Blandford Street convent, which the school currently occupies, providing St Marylebone with six general teaching rooms and staffroom areas.

St. VINCENT'S PRIMARY SCHOOL

St Vincent's R.C. Primary School caters for the education of Catholic children from 3 an a half to 11 years old who live both within and outside of the local community. As the school is just next to St. Marylebone School it will take advantage of its location to create a new foundation unit in the ground floor of the Blandford Street convent.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

During the second phase of the St Marylebone Blandford Street works, St Vincent’s R.C. School will take the opportunity to transfer the foundation unit to the refurbished ground floor of the Blandford Street convent.

Refurbishment: (143 m2)

Refurbishment works will be undertaken in the ground floor on Blandford Street convent to provide a new foundation unit (reception and nursery) to St Vincent’s R.C. Primary School. Part of the roof of the new building will provide a new playground for St Vincent’s R.C. Primary School.
