Over 70 ornamental fish (Gold Ogon) and assorted frogs have been rescued from our new Westminster BSF Pimlico site.
Shortly after taking possession of the site a defunct ornamental fish pond was discovered in the old school grounds. To begin with there seemed no apparent sign of life in the brackish water, but observant BYUK workers reckoned they could see something moving around. With the help of the RSPCA a rescue operation was launched. This involved carefully draining the pond and then netting the partially stranded fish. This delicate work was undertaken by RSPCA staff and a couple of our keen BYUK fisherman.
The rescue took over 3 hours, and everyone was delighted that approximately 75 ornamental fish and several frogs were recovered alive and well. The RSPCA took them to one of their animal reception centres, where they will remain, until a new permanent home is found for them.
